Moore Concrete’s Net Zero Pathway

At Moore Concrete, we are conscious of the impact our business activities have on the environment. As a company we continuously work towards being a positive contributor to the environment, local community and our customers.

ISO 14001 is used as the basis for managing our environmental obligations and achieving internal environmental objectives and targets. These objectives are communicated throughout the company in order to increase environmental awareness.

We strive to be at the forefront of not only green manufacturing, but greener products, enabling our customers to achieve their environmental goals.

Our Strategy

Here at Moore Concrete we have several processes in place to reduce the impact our manufacturing has on the environment:

Determined Pursuit of Low Carbon Concrete

Reducing the amount of cement in our concrete mixes has been an ongoing process for over 20 years now at Moore Concrete, due to evolving technology we can currently produce precast concrete products with a mix including up to 66% GGBS. This lowers the CO2 content of our concrete by over 50%.

Durable Low Carbon Marine Concrete

Moore Concrete have recently completed a research project to develop highly durable, corrosion resistant concrete mix designs for use in the creation of marine infrastructure.

The new optimised mix design displays improvement over our current 40% GGBS mix and the use of this in future projects should see Moore Concrete perform better in production and use.

Recycling of Materials

All of our scrap steel and timber is recycled.

100% Renewable Energy

Our factory is 100% powered by onshore wind energy.

Recycling Water Supply

We go to great lengths to ensure we recycle as much water as possible during the manufacturing process. All of the excess water from manufacturing and washouts is cleaned and recycled.

Water used in manufacturing is sourced from a borehole, by pumping water directly from the borehole to our production teams we minimise the use of mains water supply. This results in the amount of energy required to supply our factory with water being greatly reduced.

Localised Supply Chain

80% of our suppliers are based locally, this not only reduces transport emissions but supports the local economy.

Environmental Product Declarations

We have published EPD’s for a range of our products. EPD’s are used to quantify environmental information on the lifecycle of a product. Having this information available both enables clients to easily evaluate the environmental performance of our products while allowing us to identify areas of improvement. ISO 14001 Accreditation

We are ISO 14001 accredited and have been for a number of years, this demonstrates our commitment to continual improvement, pollution prevention and energy reduction.

Science Based Targets

Science-Based Targets (SBT) provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals.

Moore Concrete are 1 of only 2 UK-based precast concrete manufacturers who have set a Science Based Target.

– Setting an SBT shows our commitment as a company to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 42% by 2030.

– While mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, this will also drive innovation towards sustainable manufacturing practices.

Where Are We Going?

As a company, Moore Concrete has a world-class vision. In line with this, our goal is to be an industry leader in environmentally friendly precast concrete manufacture.

This means not only producing precast concrete in an environmentally friendly way, but also producing products that enable customers and projects to meet and exceed environmental targets.

Cement Free Concrete

Cement free concrete with the strength and integrity of our current concrete mixes is the goal, we are able to produce some of our products completely cement free already and are continuously testing new mixes on this front to extend the use of non-ferrous reinforcement materials.

Environmental Product Declarations

The recently published EPD’s are just the beginning, we are working towards producing these for our wide range of products across the business. Having EPD’s available enables us to be transparent with our customers about the environmental performance of our products as well as allowing us as a company to easily identify areas we can make positive changes moving forward.
