Energy beet potential for the biogas industry in UK and Ireland

Energy beet potential for the biogas industry in UK and Ireland

03 October 2011

Moore Biosystems are developing the potential of energy beet for use as an excellent supplementary feedstock with grass silage.

Having recently studied the use of energy beet in biogas production in Germany, we believe that energy beet has excellent potential for use in our industry in UK and Ireland. Energy beet is a purpose bred crop, typically selected in breeding programmes from sugar beet varieties. Like any feedstock energy beet has its own challenges that need to be overcome; particularly in storing, pre-treating and introduction to the digester. We are happy that these challenges are all easy to overcome and that Moore Biosystems AD plants are ideal for inclusion of energy beet. One of the benefits of the Moore Biosystems technology is that it is very versatile and robust in being able to accept and process wide ranging feedstock types, while remaining stable. The benefits in gas yield are excellent, with additional biological balance being brought to the predominantly grass rich mixtures typical in Northern Ireland. Please contact us if you would like further information regarding energy beet.
